Cuticle hell at Grand Hyatt Seoul’s the Spa

Cuticles DO matter (ultra, fantastically, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!). I had the unpleasant experience of being a treated by a good, great therapist that unfortunately had loose cuticles on her nailsides and fingertips.  Now, I know we’re all human beings and this is a normal thing when balancing from hands washing to drying to products to summer heat to blasting AC.  Hands have a rough time in summer. 90 minutes of hanging, almost microscopic skin rubbing down, across and on your face and during a facial massage no less – this is doubly worse.  Just couldn’t put it out of my mind. Sooooo Just stop the treatment if any Spaists out there encounter similar because the minute pressure and touch just ruined my whole #thespagrandhyattseoul Sunday. And To all you therapists: get your cuticles done! Spaist out

Park Hyatt Seoul: putting the boutique (read: small) into boutique spa

http://seoul.park.hyatt.com/en/hotel/activities/hotel-activities/spa.html  Park Hyatt’s “Park Club spa” is Hyatt Korea’s only Seoul, south of the Han River based spa offering decent facial treatments but crowded, claustrophobic facilities and a snooty, Gangnam staff attitude.  Park Hyatt Seoul’s Spa isn’t a successor to the Spa in the Grand Hyatt Seoul either.  Not by a country mile.    Nor does it look, or spa like its relative on Namsan. The bland beige wood decor and worn treatment room chairs from the 2005 opening need a refresh.  The treatment rooms are even smaller than Grand Seoul’s with the only difference being high above ground vs. B1 at Grand Hyatt’s spa. A lot of Gangnamers dislike going north of the Han — the driving distance, age of places, perception that their zipcode and Gu is better.  This spa is right up their alley and Gangnamers do frequent here, if not smaller ones like the SK-II spa in Cheongdam. Miss Spaist’s problems with the Park Seoul’s spa lies elsewhere. Receptionists seem to have been hired largely for having the right look Gangnam girl look and attitude.  Don’t expect them to candy coat …

The art of spaing: Tip 21 – spas and makeup removal

If a spa wanted to REALLY impress me, they, would have good products to remove makeup.   They would actually train their therapists to do it quickly and efficiently.  There’s nothing worst than getting a facial but coming out with makeup remnants and “panda eye shadow”. Even the best spas in Asia, struggle with eyeshadow, foundation and mascara and never take it off completely.  Some spas just use a facial towelette wipe too!  Just get this Chanel cleanser and your makeup removal needs are solved! Spaist tip no. 21 – happy holidays!
